The schedule for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is about to be announced for basketball teams. With 129 days to go until the first tournament, basketball at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will start to take shape with the draw for the preliminary rounds.

The draw for the next round of Olympic tournaments will take place on Tuesday 19 March in the Swiss city of Mies. The groups for the preliminary rounds will be drawn by Olympians Penny Taylor and Carmelo Anthony.

There are currently eight national teams from five different continents that have already qualified as host nations or based on their respective results at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. The remaining four places will be filled by the winners of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs), which will take place between 2 and 7 July in Piraeus (Greece), Riga (Latvia), San Juan (Puerto Rico) and Valencia (Spain).

The draw principles for the Men’s Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024 will be based on the FIBA Men’s World Ranking and other geographical principles. The distribution of the winners of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQTs) will be based on the highest ranked team at each event.

The teams will be divided into four groups based on the FIBA World Ranking Men. There will be a minimum of two and a maximum of three teams from Europe in each of the three final groups. Africa, the Americas, Asia and Oceania will have a maximum of one team per continent in each group.

Pot 1: USA, OQT Spain winners and Germany

Pot 2: Serbia, Australia and the winner of the OQT Latvia

Pot 3: Canada, France and the winner of the OQT Puerto Rico

Pot 4: Greece, Japan and the winner of the OQT South Sudan.

Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024 Draw Principles

On the women’s side, the draw for the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024 is also more certain, with 12 national teams from five continents competing at the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024 from 28 July to 11 August.

Unlike the men’s tournament, the draw for the Women’s Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024 will be based on the FIBA Women’s World Ranking and other geographical principles.

The 12 teams will be divided into four groups based on the FIBA Women’s World Ranking. There will be a minimum of one and a maximum of two teams from Europe in each of the final groups. Africa, the Americas, Asia and Oceania will have a maximum of one team per continent in each group.

Pot 1: USA, China and Australia

Pot 2: Spain, Canada and Belgium

Pot 3: France, Japan and Serbia
